Within weeks of being married, Bryan and I expanded our family to include two little kitties named Dizzy and Louie. We named them for the famed jazz trumpet players, Dizzy Gillespie and Louie Armstrong.
Bryan and I decided to adopt two cats rather than one. We felt that a cat living alone with us may become lonely, particularly if we have to be away from home overnight. And despite the persistent belief that cats are aloof loners with little if any interest in people, we knew better. Bryan and I grew up with cats and dogs - so we don't think of ourselves as 'cat people' or 'dog people' just 'animal people'.
Having
two cats is actually easier than having one because they provide so much care
for one another. Despite all the love and attention we give them, they provide
one another with the companionship that only another creature of their kind
could provide. And they lick each other clean! Dizzy and Louie never met until the day we adopted them, but they bonded immediately! They have been such a joy! When we’re working in the yard, we’ll see their little faces peering out the window to watch what we’re doing. When we watch TV, they come sit with us. They are rarely away from our sides. They greet us when we come in the door. They sleep with us at night. They sit on the edge of the bathtub when we're trying to take a shower. I mean, seriously, these cats are every bit as interactive as a dog.
Dizzy and Louie have grown a lot and they no longer fit into their hammock. But, they love each other so much that they still like to snuggle. They are so sweet!!! Dizzy loves to play in the bathtub and in the sink! He loves water! The boys like hanging out with their baby sister who provides endless intrigue. Sometimes Leah pulls their tails or fur too hard or pokes them in the eye and they run away, but they still find her very interesting and have been very tolerant of her so far.
The only problem with letting the kitties play outside is that they like to hunt and they occasionally bring their captures into the house to show us - with much pride of course. They love playing in the yard - hunting for the many little critters that live down here in Florida.
